The Death of Man (or Why I can save you)…

“Hey God” by Bon Jovi

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

-Robert A. Heinlein

It is for exactly this reason I write. The world has fallen in on itself and we as a collective consciousness have limited time to save ourselves and those will come after. It is my belief that we are more self-obsessed, egocentric and independent than ever. It is with this independent that comes the most disgusting human traits and those traits that are killing us:

  • Arrogance; each of us believes that we are the centre of the universe. People will not spare a dollar for a possibly drug-addled homeless person but will happily spend $3 for a coffee. The same can be extrapolated to the AIDS crisis, Third-World Debt or closer to home the donation of blood and organs.
  • Sloth; it is my experience that there is a segment of society that simply will not accept responsibility both for their own actions and their additional responsibility to society, both locally and globally. These people are victims and they will not see otherwise. No amount of cajoling or psuedo-psychology will change their minds for them. I’d like to say that they grow out of it, they change, but I’ve yet to see it.
  • Ignorance; the saying that “everyone has a purpose in life” is true. I believe this has been lost amongst what is seen as the “good path”. Get good grades in school, go to college/university, get a stable job, get married and have children, retire and die. What kind of life is this? Peoples unique and special talents are crushed under the weight of “the right thing”. The Abraham Lincolns, the Che Guevaras, the Michaelangelos, the Di Vincis, the Muhammad Alis, the Michael Jordans, the Winston Churchills, the Marie Curies, the Louis Pasteurs, the Kurt Cobains and the Stan Lees are crushed, suffocated by “life”. People lead God-less, money driven lives, chasing things that they believe will make the happy, when usually they simply crush them faster.

The perfect is the enemy of the good. – Voltaire

It is my belief is that true genius is dying and as we bring more and more children into the world with these very same values we are rapidly killing what millions of years could not kill. We are killing God.

And I, for one, will not let that happen…
